the secret to faking a clean houseI used to clean my house because I didn’t want other people to think I’m a slob. Now I’m past the point of caring whether or not friends think my house is clean when they come over. It’s a gift of the thirties, I think.

However, I’ve learned that I breathe easier in a space that’s clean and uncluttered. I’m kinder to my family; I think more clearly, I do better work.

“Outer order contributes to inner calm,” says Gretchen Rubin. I don’t know if it’s true for everyone; it’s certainly true for me.

Also: I would care very much if a friend slipped on a Lego and broke her leg (which seems like a real possibility, some days). This little tip eliminates the risk.

A friend taught me how to fake a clean house (although she never called it that). Here’s the secret:

A roomy, empty laundry basket (or a giant cardboard box, or Rubbermaid tote.

That’s it.

Now pick up all the stuff that isn’t where it belongs and dump it in the basket, then tuck the basket into a corner. (If you want to go all-out, put the basket in the closet.)

Next, tidy up the surfaces. (This makes a huge difference in how a room feels. ) If you have too many piles to sort through just now, plop that stuff in the laundry basket.

Straighten the pillows and blankets, push the ottoman back in place, put the books back on the shelf.

When the basket is tucked away discreetly, you don’t notice the basket: you notice the clean, shiny floors and glorious empty surfaces.

And when the clutter is gone, our living room feels like a much better place to live (and work, and play, and dream, and chat, and anything else you can think of).

My home may not be on the next cover of House Beautiful, but when I walk into my uncluttered living room I feel calm, and content.  I don’t feel overwhelmed, and I definitely don’t feel depressed or inadequate.  And it doesn’t have to be perfect to work (which is good, because it’s never perfect at my house!), it just has to be decently tidy.

no bossIt’s something I’m learning. How I manage myself – as a CEO and entrepreneur. I am my own boss. How do I manage myself? It’s a great question. Here are the ways that I’ve learned to manage myself and make sure I get things done:


  1. I wake up early. My goal is to try to be up and workout before my kids are up. Since it’s summertime, the kids wake up between 8:00 and 9:00 am, so I try to start my day by at least 7am. During the school year they are up between 6:30 and 7:00 am, so I try to be up by 5:30 am.  It helps me feel like I got a head start on my day.
  2. I start with something productive. I don’t get on my phone or computer until my workout is in and done. And, instead of checking my emails first thing when I open my computer, I start with the most stressful thing on my to-do list. This helps me feel accomplished and not like I spend all day answering emails.
  3. I try to keep phone calls to a minimum. I’ve never be a fan of talking on the phone but, it’s easy to babble away to my customers and coaches about everything that we have going on and it ends up being counter-productive. I’ve really tried to watch my time on the phone and hangouts so that it gives me time to actually produce work.
  4. I close all social media down. I try (I really do) to ignore Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. during my scheduled productivity time when I’m sitting at my computer and only go on during the allotted 15 minutes morning, noon, and night.
  5. I block out productivity time. Every morning, I look at my to-do list, pick the three most important things that I need to get accomplished for the day, and block out time in my schedule to complete them. This way it’s in the calendar, I am in the mindset of what I’m working on, and I get more done while I’m focused.
  6. I compile my to-do lists at 5pm. Towards the end of my day, I try not to wrap up before taking 20 minutes to compile all of my random notes and to-do lists for the day. This way I make sure that I didn’t forget to send anything out. As I’m compiling the list, I put together my to-do list for the morning. This helps to ensure that I dive right into a productive work day first thing in the morning. It gives me less time to surf the web or my Facebook newsfeed.
  7. I track my goals and realign them weekly. You have to know where you want to go before you can get there. I make it a point to analyze my goals and make sure they are in line with my productivity time each week. Once I know what my goals are I can set my daily, weekly, and monthly to do lists to keep me on track.

Day 12 Gah. Proud and accountable!! It’s not the falling off that hurts so much as the getting back up. On the left I was “too busy” and eating whatever I wanted while occasionally working out. I was being LAZY! And it felt yucky. On the right I am following my own best advice and eating 6 meals a day and working out for 30 minutes a day. NO EXCUSES! And it feels aaahhhhhhmmmmmmmaaaaaaZING! Step away from that Comfort Zone!

When is the last time you left your Comfort Zone?

When was the last time that you stepped out of your comfort zone and worked on something that REALLY challenged you?  When you felt uncomfortable?  When you were in ‘uncharted territory’ for yourself?

We don’t progress and we don’t change when we stay in our comfort zones.

This applies to EVERYTHING in life.

  • We don’t get better bodies without progressing and changing our workouts.success street
  • We don’t get healthier without changing our poor habits and making better choices.
  • We don’t create better relationships without putting in effort and choosing to surround ourselves with the right people.
  • We don’t ADVANCE in our work environment or business without continually progressing, learning and accepting new challenges AND
  • MOST CERTAINLY don’t advance towards our personal GOALS without stepping out of our comfort zone and working on things that challenge us.

Comfort zones are COMFORTABLE but they do NOTHING to help us advance towards our goals.

I have been working  for the past few months non-stop developing new training programs to propel my business.

It challenges me, it creates doubts, it frustrates me , it beats me up some days (like yesterday) and it makes me humble.


Why do I continue?

Because I KNOW that with these experiences comes welcome change and THAT is how we reach our goals.

Get out of debt FAST in 5 Simple Steps



Are you drowning in debt? Is it tough to come up with the money to pay your bills every month? Does getting out of debt seem absolutely impossible?

Don’t stress, my friend! It can be done!

Here are 5 simple steps to get out of debt faster.

1. Create a budget.

Creating a budget is essential if you want to pay off your debt. You need to set limits. Instead of going to the grocery store whenever you run out of food and buying whatever looks good, you know that you only have a set amount of money for buying those items. This makes running to the store and spending whatever you feel like unacceptable.

When you create your budget, make debt your top priority (after paying yourself first, of course). Cut back on every single little thing that you can, and put that money towards your debt.

Once you have finished creating your budget, look it over and make sure that it’s realistic. Your monthly bills need to be less than the amount of money you are bringing in every month, otherwise your budget won’t balance and your plan is bound to fail.

2. Cut or reduce as many bills as possible.

If you are really serious about paying off your debt quickly, cut your entertainment budget back to $100 per month or less (but still include it – you need some entertainment so that you don’t go crazy while paying off all that debt!).

Get rid of your cellphone or landline, colour your own hair, start using coupons to save money on groceries, move to a smaller home or apartment, get rid of your vehicle and take public transportation, switch to a no-fee bank account – there are so many ways to save money. Put those savings toward your debt.

3. Make extra money to put towards debt.

Whether you have to get a 2nd job or sell things on Craigslist, you need to make as much money as possible if you want to knock out that debt in a hurry.

Unless you have a lot of high-value items to sell, getting a 2nd (or 3rd) job is probably the best way to make some extra cash.

I understand that it may be near impossible to get an extra job for some people. If that’s you, try asking your current boss for a raise or more hours.

Look into online network marketing or commission based positions.

4. Set small goals and celebrate victories.

It’s important to celebrate your accomplishments, big or small. If you have a ton of debt to pay off, it may seem like there’s no way you will ever be debt free. Instead of making your goal to “pay off all debt by the end of the year”, have a few small goals.

For example, let’s say you have $35,000 in debt.

Your first goal could look something like this: “pay off $5,000 worth of debt in 8 weeks”. Then, push yourself really hard to meet this goal, and if you reach it – celebrate! Allow yourself a small amount of spending money to buy yourself a little treat. Then, set goal number two – which may be something along the lines of: “pay off $5,000 worth of debt in 6 weeks”. Treat yourself again when you reach this goal.

Your remaining goals could look something like this:
Goal #3 – Completely pay off credit card #1 in 8 weeks.
Goal #4 – Completely pay off credit card #2 in 8 weeks.
Goal #5 – Become debt free by December 1, 2012.

Setting small goals, instead of one huge goal, makes the task at hand seem much easier and less stressful.

5. Snowball your debt payments.

Often times, when someone pays off a credit card and still has other debts, they will use that money that they paid toward the first credit card and put it right back into their budget as extra money. Instead of doing that, put it towards your next credit card.

Let’s say you have 4 debts:
1. Credit Card #1 – minimum payment is $100 per month
2. Credit Card #2 – minimum payment is $225 per month
3. Credit Card #3 – minimum payment is $65 per month
4. Line Of Credit – minimum payment is $175 per month

Figure out the order of the interest rates (which one has the highest, second highest, etc.) and then pay the minimum payment on the 3 debts with the lowest interest rates and pay more than the minimum payment on the highest interest debt.

Using the example above, you have to pay at least $565 every month towards these 4 debts. However, since you want to get out debt fast, you will need to pay more than just the minimum payment – but just for the one debt with the highest interest.

Let’s say card #1 has the highest interest rate. If you can, push that $100/month minimum payment to $500 (or more, if you can afford it). Once that credit card has been paid off, instead of just paying the minimum payment on the second highest interest debt, pay the minimum AND the $500 that you were paying toward credit card #1.

You’re already used to spending that money anyway, so you won’t notice anything different.

By following the 5 simple steps above, you will be well on your way to getting your debt paid off fast.

Remember to keep at it – no matter what challenges you may face. There’s no better feeling than knowing you don’t owe anyone anything.

INCREDIBLE!!! If you would have told me in January that I would be in the list of the Top 500 BEACHBODY COACHES out of 130,000 COACHES…I would have told you that you might need medication!

It is so amazing that the work I do helping others is changing my own life, my path, my dreams, what I want, and who I want to become.

We have all been trained and lied to for years. There is no “golden years” when you bust your butt for 40-50 of them only to realize you still may have a passport you’ve never used, no legacy to leave your children, or dreams you’ve never reached.

I realized today I need to stop focusing so hard on what I haven’t done within this company to really enjoy what I HAVE DONE! My heart is so full in the lives I’ve seen changed. And today as I read my Elite Status report I was in shock and awe of how truly blessed I really am.
