Detox Water Recipe

Moving has taken a toll on my eating habits and my workouts! Now that we are settling in it’s time for this momma to get back in track!! What’s your favorite infused water detox? This is mine! I have a great strawberry one too!!! I’ll post that one this week for sure too!

*I’ve had some people ask about side effects from drinking Lemon water aka Detox Water and I’m not aware of any, but a few people have reported going #2 more than normal the first day or two. When in doubt always consult a physician.

Drinking LOTS of water is key to weight loss, staying hydrated, and removing impurities from your body. If you’re not a big water drinker then plain water can get boring, but if you add the right things they give it some flavor and help to detox your body.

Lemon: Lemon water makes for a powerful detox drink; lemon juice helps to cleanse and alkalize the body. Add one thinly sliced lemon to a large pitcher, or squeeze fresh lemon juice into your glass. Lemon also aides in digestion and boosts your immune system.

Mint: Mint adds a touch of sweetness without the sugar, and it also helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion.

Cucumber: Adding a few slices of cucumber to your water makes for excellent re-hydration, and cucumber contains anti-inflammatory properties.


My Detox Water Recipe

3 quarts or 12 cups of water

2 lemons, sliced

1/2 cucumber, sliced

10 mint leaves

Rinse everything really well. Slice lemons and cucumber. Add lemons, cucumber, and mint to pitcher. Cover with 3 quarts of water and refrigerate over night.


Q & A

How much lemon water should I drink? If you are over 150 pounds 1 lemon total a day if you are under 150 pounds ½ lemon will do. Increase your consumption gradually because lemons have high detoxification qualities and its symptoms.

When is the best time to drink lemon water? Upon rising, your body has been in a natural state of fasting all night or all day if you work midnights. Drinking lemon water will help to jump start your metabolism and digestive system. Also drink lemon water 30 minutes before each meal this will enhance the nutritional absorption, increase digestion and energy derived from your meal.

How often should I drink lemon water? Once a day in the morning is good. Twice a day is excellent! See what works best for you. Play around with it and see how you feel. When in doubt, consult a physician.

Can I use lime or another kind of mint? YES! You can add whatever you want to this drink. It’s really all about your preference and what you will enjoy.

Can I take medications while drinking this? I am not a doctor and you should ALWAYS consult your physician.

Can I still eat while doing this? Please still eat while drinking this!! Of course if you’re trying to lose weight eating a healthy and balanced meal is ideal. I would suggest drinking 1 to 2 glasses a day.


My Assertive Rights (and Yours too!)

Each person comes with a set of rights and regulations. We all vary in patience, ideas, tolerance, love, anger, morals, beliefs, etc. We also have various degrees of behavior and how we handle other people, situations, issues, relationships and power struggles.

I was given a valuable technique for helping us find where we stand from passive to aggressive and I made an easy to understand chart. When you are passive {like a loyal teddy bear} you do not cause a stir or stand up for your issues but in doing that you cause an underlying volcano of emotions. When you are aggressive {like an angry snake} you tend to stand up too heavily for your issues and have a tendency to forget others have their own rights and issues.
When you are assertive {like a wise owl} you pay equal attention to what is right for you and what is right for the other person.
Within your assertive rights is a powerful belief system. It empowers you to take care of yourself while you remain respectful of other people taking care of themselves.

P90X3 PiYo Challenge Update Week 3

Phew!! This week really kicked my butt. We are in the middle of moving and I’m trying really hard to stay consistent with my workouts. Meals haven’t been perfect but, I have pre-made salads and my Shakeology ready to go at a moments notice so that when hunger strikes I can fight back.



Tony crippled me on Friday with P90X3 Accelator so yesterday’s PiYo Sculpt was less than ALL IN. I haven’t been sticking with my 6am wakeup this week because we are working so late into the night training new coaches and packing up the house.

What I love about my meal plan is that I get a little treat in each day and I don’t feel deprived like I have in the past.

And while PiYo and P90X3 aren’t consistent with my intensity during 21 Day Fix and Insanity programs I have to say they are growing on me and PiYo JUST MIGHT be my absolute favorite workout. I’m seriously considering getting certified to teach it. Unlike my Insanity classes I think PiYo is more universal in appeal and easily modified to fit every fitness level without intimidating. And, the flexibility factor is amazing for anyone, beginner to advanced, young and old.

I’m uber excited for Hardcore on the Floor this upcoming week and Drench is going to kill me 😉 I haven’t gone on my run yet today but I’m feeling like it’s going to be a dusk run to just let go of what this week has put me through mentally.

Aden’s birthday is on Saturday. It’s breaking my heart we didn’t get to do the birthday party we had planned for him. But, I’m trying to stay positive and know that everything will work out and he’ll know he’s loved and have fun no matter what we do (after a garage sale in the morning and cleaning our old house in the afternoon).

We have never gotten notice and moved within the same month before evvva so it’s grappling my mind to make sure everything is done and ready to go when it’s time to load the truck up on Friday. Keep us in your prayers!!!! ❤

Let me know what you like or don’t like about my meal plan! I loved this one from the week before so much I used it again! I’m a creature of habit and could eat the same thing day in and day out if I was pressed for ideas. My treat meal on Saturday was a Papa Napoli’s hot pastrami sandwich with mustard! OH em gee if I could only eat THOSE everyday! It was a real TREAT!!

10 Character Trait Activities to Tame your Toddler and Teach Life Lessons

I’ve shared back and forth on here for years that Aden hasn’t been my easiest child. He’s very passionate and strong-willed when he’s got his heart set on something particular. He’s easily distracted and he repeats himself incessantly. Those are just some of his more endearing traits hahahaha Bless his heart he’s the youngest of 5 so he has to be willing to move, change, and dash at the drop of a hat most days. So I’ve been doing a lot of reading and research to work with him on really settling his crazy mind sometimes and coping with life’s ups and downs. In that I found 10 ways we work at home to bring him in the realm of knowing others exist, strength in himself, and keeping an even balance to save my sanity. Let me know if you have any I can add!!!

Yes toddlers may be copying instead of having a *deep* understanding of the character trait, but copying is the basis for many habits.  I feel it is more empowering for children to have good feelings about their actions related to these values, instead of just being told what to do for no reason.  Repetition and giving plenty opportunities to discuss and practice the character traits in everyday situations is all it takes.

I’ve been working on these with my temperamental Aden and they are really showing signs of improvement in his understanding of the natural order of things in the world. It’s almost a lost art really.

Here are 10 easy character building activities for toddlers:

With each of these activities, be sure to use the virtue (bolded) in your conversation so your toddler can learn the word.

Practice the virtue of service by helping your toddler prepare a meal for other family members.

Learn gratitude by playing the “Thank You Game.”  Simply take turns giving things to each other (such as toys or pieces of food) while saying “thank you” each time.

Help your toddler understand responsibility by giving them some responsibilities of their own whenever appropriate, such as putting dishes away or transferring laundry from the basket to the machine.  They may need help for quite a while, but will eventually be able to do some jobs on their own which increases self-confidence as well.

Discuss respect by watching insects and showing how you can be careful not to disturb them.

Role play kindness by taking care of stuffed toys or animal figurines: setting up a home for them, feeding the, bathing them, caring for them if they get hurt.

Put on some soft music and do stretches while taking deep breaths, having your toddler copy you.  Explain how calming our minds and bodies is practicing peacefulness.

Teach courtesy by feeding your toddler a special treat one piece at a time, and requesting they say “please” as they ask for new bites.  Add “thank you” and “you’re welcome” as they master each word.  Have your child divvy out pieces to you, too, to let them have a chance on the “giving” side!

Help your toddler show gentleness by giving them several delicate items to look at and hold, such as pictures in frames or precious jewelry.  As they hold the items, explain how some objects and people (such as babies) require extra gentleness so they are not hurt.

Give your toddler the opportunity to practice generosity by baking a dozen muffins and taking half over to a neighbor.  Let your child hand over the treats, if they wish, but do not worry if they get shy and prefer not to.  As they participate more in the act of giving, they will become more confident with time.

Encourage your toddler to show courage with a new experience you have prepared for them, such as climbing a ladder or playing with the pet of a friend/neighbor.  It is great to give children the opportunity to try new things, but there is no reason to push them if they are not ready.  If they want you to help them you can simply say, “Yes, let’s practice courage together and you can decide if you want to try by yourself next time” as you help them along.  Based on personality, courage may be something that comes naturally to your child, or not.  However all children will need to practice courage at one time or another – whether it is playing with new children at age 3 or standing up to name-calling at age 5 – so it is great to learn the word early on.

PiYo P90X3 Week 2 Progress Update – 6 steps to get back on track

Week 2 of my P90X3/PiYo hybrid schedule is in the bag and I’m on to Week 3!!

I will admit I have been having a hard time getting those workouts in consistently. And my eating, well, it’s been a little 60/40. There are no workouts that will out exercise too many calories, carbs, sugars, etc.

It’s time for a little Coach Momma T TOUGH LOVE!

My own best advice I would give one of my challengers or clients:


1. Schedule your workouts in the a.m.morning workouts

2. Create a meal plan

I truly feel that the hope of instant results is the reason that so many people fail. They are not willing to see it through.  We expect instant gratification and instant transformation.  It’s not going to happen. I mean it literally took me 1 round of Insanity (60days) to lose 15 lbs then it took me 60 days of T25, and 3 rounds of 21 Day Fix to get in the best shape of my life.  Honestly, it wasn’t an overnight deal.  I learned how to change my diet, to strip it down, to cut out foods that were causing me to hang onto weight and it took will power.  I remember all the things I held strong with, birthday cake, ice cream, donuts, cookies at Christmas, drinks at the bar!  It was a sacrifice because I wanted to change more than I wanted to remain the same.
